The vibration of sound and the potency of silence are at the heart of devotional chanting, in sanskrit called “kirtan”. Om or Aum is the primordial vibration, or sound, of the universe. This practice of devotional yoga opens the heart, stills the mind and welcomes the spirit. Devotional chanting is not based in religion but rather in spirituality spanning across many traditions around the globe.
As Jai Uttal shares “These ancient chants contain a transformative power and healing energy. By singing these prayers we join a stream of consciousness and devotion that has been flowing for centuries.”
We host quarterly kirtans in the foothills of Boulder at a beautiful venue called the Starhouse with a full band of professional musicians. The chants are always from a variety of traditions and many are originals written by Scott Medina. We celebrate the silence together infused with chants that are slow and meditative inviting us into the stillness and others that are an explosive rhythm of mantric groove. You can contact Scott at ColoradoKirtan@aol.com to receive our Starhouse Kirtan schedule.
We also enjoy spearheading the annual Rocky Mountain Kirtan Summit at which we bring together kirtan leaders from a variety of traditions along the Front Range to share in an evening of inspired music and chanting. You can find out more here: KirtanSummit.com

Meditation: “I express my truth with open and clear communication”. Not only chanting and singing balance this chakra but also spending time in silence tuning into subtle sound vibrations while opening up to avenues of higher consciousness. Playing a game of charades is a fun way to be in silence, too.
